    Manfreda Salisbury

    Die differenzierte Bearbeitung innerhalb der Familie Agavaceae der Gattungen Manfreda Salisbury (1866), Polianthes Linnaeus (1753) und Prochnyanthes Watson (1887) führten zu unterschiedlichen Ergebnissen der Autoren Rose (1903), Berger (1915), Hutchinson (1934), Shinners (1966), Matuda (1961), Verhoek-Williams (1975), Piña Luján, (1985/86), Bogler & Simpson (1995/1996), Verhoek (1998), McVaugh (1989), Thiede (2001), Good-Ávila et al. (2006), Solano et al. (2007/2013) und Cruz (2009).

    Die morpholgischen und phylogenetischen Daten sind nicht schlüssig, teilweise unvollständig, ungenügend dokumentiert. Weitere Forschungsarbeit speziell im Feld ist notwendig.
    Die nicht eindeutig dokumentierten klassifizierten Arten wurden nicht erwähnt.

    Schmale bis mittelgroße ausdauernde Pflanzen mit aufrechten fleischigen Rhizomen. Wurzeln fleischig und faserig, aus der Rhizombasis entstehend. Blätter dünn bis fleischig, in einer weichen Spitze endend, haarig (Manfreda pubescens, Manfreda maculata), Randzähne wenn vorhanden weich, papillate oder dentate. Blütenstand spike oder raceme/ährenförmig, oder raceme/rispig mit einzelnen, grünen, weissen, rosa farbenen, teilweise mit unregelmäßig gefleckten braunen bis grünen, gewöhnlich trichterförmigen, sessilen, selten gestielten Blüten an den Knoten. Blütenblätter in Blütenröhre vewachsend. Fruchtknoten innen. Narben dreilappig oder mit zurückgekrümmten Lappen.

    Etwa 30 Arten in Mexiko, USA, Mittelamerika in Guatemala, Honduras, El Salvador und Nicaragua verbreitet.
